About

Who the hell is Todd Keisling?

He’s another writer trying to make it in this vast, scary world of publishing. You might say he’s an average guy, living an average life, and he’d probably agree with you—though he’d also say that “average” is what keeps him reaching for something “more.”

He started writing when he was very young, though visual art was his first passion, and it wasn’t until some years later that he realized he wasn’t a visual artist at all, but a writer. So much for those aspirations of being a comic book artist.

Somewhere along the way he decided he wanted to be an author, so he tried his hand at writing a novel. That novel later won second place in his university’s writing contest. Three years later, one of his novellas won second place in the same contest. He didn’t have a problem with coming in second place. He was just happy someone liked his work enough to award it with something.

Todd graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2005 with a BA in English. He moved to Pennsylvania five days later. Sometimes he misses his old Kentucky home.

Since moving he’s written the novels imagiNATION and A Life Transparent, as well as a number of short stories. His tastes range from horror to sci-fi to speculative. He doesn’t believe in confining himself to a single genre, but would rather allow the story to dictate itself. He considers Chuck Palahniuk to be his mentor, even if their styles are quite different. Other authors who have inspired him are Dean Koontz, Haruki Murakami, Clive Barker, Neil Gaiman, Stephen King and Ray Bradbury. There are far more than that, but those are some of the more modern folks.

His work has appeared in Limestone, Kaleidoscope, Suture, Contemplicity, and is forthcoming in 365tomorrows and Soundzine.

He loves music, and is a rabid fan of Nine Inch Nails and Tool—sometimes to a fault.

Oh, and he’s also sort of young. At 24, he has no desire to slow down. In fact, he’s just getting started.

For now he lives with his fiancée, Erica, somewhere near Reading, Pennsylvania, and he hates writing about himself in third-person.
