Swag.

As I mentioned last time, I have a promotion coming up next week on May 16th and 17th. This will also use up the last of my “free” days for this KDP Select period. I’ll get more days at the end of the month.

This time around I’ve secured sponsorship on eBookSwag, which is co-owned by horror novelist Scott Nicholson. I purchased three days of sponsorship–two to cover the “free” days, and another to cover a day at regular price.

I’ve approached these promotional days as an experiment, trying to get a feel for what’s the “sweet” spot. In March I sent out a mass email and made heavy use of social media. In April I organized the live broadcast, using that as a rallying point; I also secured sponsorship for both promo days on Daily Kindle Bargains. Categorizing the book in Horror also helped a lot. Again, I made heavy use of social media to promote.

Both times I went against the norm, promoting at the beginning of the month, and right before a weekend. This time I’m trying the middle of the month, in the middle of the week. I still intend to make use of social media, but not as heavily. I want to see how well it will move on its own.

I’m really curious to see if sales will pick up on a week day following a promotion. These last couple of times, the promos ended on a weekend–and sales have trickled. Granted, sales following the April promo were better than in March (so much, in fact, that the book actually earned a profit over the cost of sponsorship), but they weren’t steady. That’s the hard part.

Anyway, that’s the update. ALT will be free again on May 16th and 17th. Tell your friends.

Oh, and I may post a video blog soon, too. For now I’m going to crawl back into my cave to read through the TLM manuscript (again).
